Ever since reading Nancy Drew books as a little girl, I have loved reading mysteries and became hooked on spy novels in particular. I spent hours researching spies, especially ones undercover. Imagine how excited I was as an attorney to represent clients being questioned by the FBI during an investigation.The FBI’s office was a few floors below ours and one of the attorneys I worked with left to become an agent. I was also intrigued by a case involving a man who led a double life and had two separate families. Upon learning about each other, the families fought over their inheritance.

Excited to share my enthusiasm for spy novels with a middle grade audience and to recognize female spies I had read about, I decided to write a middle grade novel called The Neighbors’ Secret with a female protagonist - Maddie Braverman.

I based The Neighbors’ Secret on some of my legal cases and on research I did about female agents during the American Revolution and on undercover agents living in the United States over the last 20 years.
